BlurMyData Privacy Policy
BlurMyData is a Chrome extension that helps users hide sensitive information in browser pages before demos, screenshots, recordings, livestreams, and browser-tab sharing.
BlurMyData V1 processes supported browser-page content locally in your browser. It does not require an account, does not upload page content to a BlurMyData server, and does not include analytics or tracking SDKs.
Information The Extension Processes
When you use BlurMyData on a supported browser page, the extension may inspect visible and accessible page text, supported form fields, and contenteditable text in order to detect patterns such as email addresses, phone numbers, credit-card-like numbers, IP addresses, JWT-like tokens, API-key-like tokens, bearer tokens, and password-like assignments.
This processing happens locally in your browser.
When you use Select Area, BlurMyData uses your dragged browser-page rectangle locally to place a manual redaction overlay. The selected area coordinates and page content are not uploaded to a BlurMyData server.
Information The Extension Stores
BlurMyData stores extension preferences locally using Chrome extension storage. These preferences may include enabled detection categories, redaction style, blur strength, Browser Sharing Mode settings, custom keywords, saved rules, ignored sites, and license entitlement state.
BlurMyData does not create a user account and does not store extension settings on a BlurMyData server.
Pro License Activation
If you activate a Pro license, BlurMyData may contact the BlurMyData License API to activate, refresh, or deactivate the license. License API requests are used only for license status and do not include browser-page content, screenshots, detected values, or extension settings.
The License API may store backend license metadata such as hashed license and device identifiers, masked license display, provider activation and order identifiers, license status, and timestamps.
The License API does not receive browser-page content, screenshots, detected sensitive values, manual selection coordinates, or extension settings.
Screenshots
If you use Screenshot Mode, BlurMyData asks Chrome to capture the visible browser tab after redactions are applied. The screenshot is returned to the extension as a PNG data URL and downloaded locally by your browser.
Screenshot Mode captures the visible browser tab area only. It does not capture or protect the full desktop, other apps, browser chrome, other tabs, or non-visible page content.
No Uploads, Tracking, Or Sale Of Data
BlurMyData V1 does not:
- Upload page content, screenshots, detected values, manual selection coordinates, or settings to a BlurMyData server.
- Use analytics or tracking SDKs.
- Sell personal information.
- Share personal information with advertisers.
- Require account creation or sign-in.
Chrome Permissions
BlurMyData requests Chrome permissions so it can run on the active tab when you use it, inject its content script, store local settings, read active tab metadata, and capture the visible tab for local screenshot export. The current permissions are activeTab, scripting, storage, and tabs.
Limitations
BlurMyData protects browser-page content that the extension can access. It is not a full-screen privacy system and does not protect desktop applications, operating-system notifications, browser chrome, other tabs, canvas or video pixels, images, or restricted browser pages.
Detection is based on local pattern matching. It may miss sensitive information or redact content that is not sensitive. You should review pages before sharing, recording, or publishing.
